More than the region's gateway, the West End lures visitors with well known Southern California attractions. At the crossroads of Southern California, the Inland Empire borders Los Angeles and Orange counties. At the apex of four major freeways in Southern California, the West End transportation corridor links the greater Los Angles area with the interior of the United States. The West End’s largest city, Ontario, is home to the LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT). Ranked by Forbes as one of the nation’s best alternative airports, LA/Ontario has nine major airlines and over 250 flights daily to key destinations. The contemporary designed Ontario Convention Center is equipped with the latest in technology, and has 225,000 square feet of flexible meeting space. With a 70,000 square foot column free exhibit hall, 20,000 square foot ballroom and an additional 24,000 square feet of flexible breakout rooms, the center is ideal for small to mid-size events of up to 5,000 people. Within walking distance of the Center are over 2,500 hotel rooms to accommodate any budget. As Southern California’s most incredible shopping destination the Ontario Mills Mall awes shoppers, with more than 200 manufacturer and retail outlets, brand-name and specialty stores all under one roof! Discover imaginative eateries in the Food Court or enjoy dining at one of the four restaurants. Entertainment for all ages makes Ontario Mills an exciting place...comedy club, billiards, arcade games and over 30 movie screens. Citizens Business Bank Arena the centerpiece of Piemonte at the Ontario Center is the home of the Ontario Reign, bringing the excitement of professional ice hockey to Ontario. The Reign an affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, are members of the twenty-four team ECHL, regarded as the premier AA professional hockey league in North America. In addition to the Reign, the Arena also hosts a variety of other sporting competitions, concerts, family shows, special events, and community activities. Ontario’s strategic location in Southern California makes it easy to reach popular attractions, whether it is Disneyland, famous beaches, mountain and desert resorts or the glamour of Hollywood. West End communities surrounding Ontario all have their own unique claims on the visitor’s attention. North of Ontario surrounded by the majestic San Gabriel mountains is Rancho Cucamonga, home to historic Route 66, golfing at an Arnold Palmer-designed course, exciting minor league baseball, live theater performances, artistic and historic tours, museums, upscale shopping and dining at the most popular fashion retailers and restaurants, and over 150 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. The city is also home of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes; a Class A professional baseball team affiliated with the Angels boasts its own stadium, the Epicenter Entertainment & Sports Complex. A region once filled with vineyards is home of the Joseph Filippi Winery, which offer daily tastings and amazing award-winning varietals from the Cucamonga Valley. East of Rancho Cucamonga is the city of Fontana, home of the West Coast’s premier motor sports venue the Auto Club Speedway. The Speedway hosts the NASCAR® Cup Series races every February and October drawing over 100,000 fans. In addition to the races other events such as NASCAR®, hot rod, motorcycle, and drag races keep the Speedway active year-round. Sierra Lakes Golf Club is a challenging Ted Robinson-designed public course at the base of the San Bernardino Mountains. The Center Stage Theater located in Fontana’s civic center, provides Broadway-style productions and dinner theater shows in a beautifully restored 1930’s movie palace. The city of Upland’s charming downtown district, which is west of Ontario, is reminiscent of the 1930s. Every Thursday evening, during the months of March – December, downtown Upland hosts one of the best farmers markets in the area. Located 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, Claremont is best known for its tree-lined streets, historic buildings, and college campuses. Visit the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden to view acres of native California plants. The city of Montclair has a history as rich as that of any other West End city. The earliest inhabitants of the land that is now Montclair were the Serrano Indians. The Serrano Indians built their village on the banks of a sycamore tree-lined creek which followed what is now Mills Avenue. Montclair Plaza, built in 1968, is the shopping anchor of Montclair, housing 200 stores and boutiques. Newly redesigned in 2008, the mall houses shops such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, Sephora, Coach, H&M and Swarovski. Traveling south to Chino, glimpse Old California while visiting the Yorba and Slaughter Families Adobe, built in 1852-53, one of the oldest standing adobe residences in San Bernardino County. Chino’s rich agricultural history dates back to the Spanish land grant forming Rancho Santa Ana del Chino. The area specialized in orchard and row crops and was the number one dairy area in the United States. The city’s motto, “Where Everything Grows” originally referred to this agricultural beginning. Today it applies to growth in families, business and the strong sense of community. Chino Airport (CNO), formerly known as Cal Aero Field, is rich with history; rooted back to the early 1940s when the airport was home to the Cal Aero Cadets. The Airport has transformed from a training facility for the war effort into a major economic engine for the Southern California region. Enjoy breakfast at the ever popular Flo’s Café and then spend the day seeing up-close a P-51 Mustang, Japanese Zero, B-25 or other beautifully restored historic aircrafts at the Planes of Fame Air Museum. Opened on May 23, 2008, The Shoppes at Chino Hills is the newest open air mall in the West End. There are over 50 merchants ranging from Banana Republic to H&M to the first Peet’s Coffee & Tea in the Inland Empire. Site of the 1984 Olympic Shooting Venue, Prado Regional Park offers families a rural getaway on more than 2,000 acres in the Chino Valley Basin on the borders of Orange and Los Angeles counties.
